Not everyone can learn a given material in the same amount of time and with the same results. Are you curious why? Each of us has various predispositions, which support learning. But they are not always fully used, which is mainly caused by unsuitable material for the recipient. The word 'adapt' means well-fitting, so today a few words about 'adaptive learning'.

How does adaptive learning work?

Adaptive learning consists in evaluating the activity and results of people who absorb a given part of the material. Then, using this data, personalizes content for learning, which is designed to help in particular the strengths and weaknesses of each learner. In short, the material has its own personal character.

How to customize learning material to the recipient? There are two methods.

The first one, designed adaptivity, is one in which the educator designs an expert-teaching sequence. It tells technology how to react in exceptional situations - the “if THIS, then THAT“ approach.

The second one is algorithimic adaptivity, in which one or more algorithms answer two basic questions: “What does the student know?“ and “What should be the student's experience?“ Based on these answers, the algorithm can choose the right element at the right time for each student during his learning path.

In addition to design, same importance in this process have an adaptive factors. They are responsible for the student's previous experience determining the level of his knowledge, preferences about the content and other factors that evoke emotions in the user's perception of the learning material.

In the whole process, the student's needs are in the first place. By adjusting the content to the place in the structure or employee's position, Competence implements in an accessible way the mechanism of adaptive learning, which rules in e‑learning trends in 2019.
